PTA to organize 3G Seminar on Thursday

Islamabad: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is organizing a seminar on third generation (3G) on June, 10, 2010. Minister In charge for IT, Sardar Mohammad Latif Khan Khosa will be the chief guest on this occasion while Secretary IT, Naguib Ullah Malik will be the guest of honour. Chairman PTA, Dr. Mohammed Yaseen will chair the panel discussion while IT & telecom industry experts and media men will also attend the event.

The seminar will highlight various aspects of 3G Mobile Broadband services and 3G spectrum auctions in Pakistan. Local and international experts will also deliver presentations on 3G mobile Broadband services during the seminar. The objective of this seminar is to deliberate upon the regulatory, policy and technical challenges in connecting Pakistan through 3G Mobile Broadband for which a panel discussion will be carried out during the seminar to get recommendations from the participants of the event.

It may be mentioned that 3G Mobile Broadband is an important step in modernization of mobile telephone system. With the launch of 3G, in future, Pakistani cell phone subscribers will be able to transmit and receive high speed data through their mobile phones. High speed data means possibility of video calls, internet browsing and downloading at a much higher speed which also includes usage of data intensive applications.

Since 3G networks can act as segue to proliferation of broadband in Pakistan and to facilitate the goal, the government, besides looking at financial aspects, would be interested to make 3G spectrum licensing an attractive investment opportunity for the cellular mobile operators. Pakistan 3G market has a great potential and is likely to attract even higher than anticipated investment during the 3G auctions.

It is pertinent to mention here that number of countries like South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, France, Belgium, Japan, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, Spain and Denmark have successfully introduced 3G services for their consumers and India has recently auctioned 3G spectrum.
