Karachi: Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Dr. Mohammed Yaseen has said that PTA’s focus is on value added services and with a high penetration level of mobile and low penetration of internet we have to explore the available possibilities which could be gained via mobile 2.0 theories. I very much foresee the further development of presently available technologies and those coming ahead through value added services and content. He was addressing to Connect 2010 ICT Forum – Telecom Session at Expo Centre Karachi and talking to media men on the occasion. He said that our emphasis is on e-commerce, e-agriculture and e-education, it is the time to open doors of opportunities to our young innovative minds and to bridge the unseen gaps between all potentials players of ICT proliferation.
Chairman PTA said that growth has shown positive signs while the revenue collection also increased and we look ahead to continue our revelation of promoting ICT sector of Pakistan through a joint collaborative approach. He said that the future ICT technologies are likely to evolve twofold in shape of “Internet of Things” where everyday objects can make simple communications on-line, and “Innovation Ecosystems”; for dynamically exchanging resources, applications, services and knowledge.
He added that in response to transparent policy and regulatory apparatus, our market has observed liberalization, greater private sector participation and competition. Dr. Mohammed Yaseen said that our telecommunication industry has emerged as the most promising segment in Pakistan’s economy bringing in substantial revenues and creating remarkable job opportunities for the country’s youth. Tele-density has increased to 62.5%. For last year, sector revenue increased by 20% with a present number of 96.8 million subscribers.
Responding to questions of journalists regarding access of police to CDR he said that this is confidential data and the matter will be resolved by Interior Ministry by formulating SoP in this regard. He said that as far as issue of installing jammers in the Jails is concerned the related department should submit application with Ministry of IT and this could only be done through a specific procedure.
